Update: On April 11, 2024 the WETA Board received a presentation on a draft Service Vision and Expansion Policyand provided feedback. Following that meeting, staff incorporated comments and developed the final 2050 Service Vision and Expansion Policy — including adding more detailed information about emergency response and first/last mile connections.

Background: Informed by the priorities of key stakeholders and the Bay Area public, WETA developed a series of service expansion concepts that were evaluated against a set of possible futures. Based on this evaluation, WETA's goal was to identify a preferred service vision and expansion policy that is resilient to whatever the future may hold. The image above shows what the ferry network would look like under the proposed expansion approach, which includes two tiers of expansion.
